Thanks to you, here are some of the great reasons we’re celebrating:
• For 50 years, since our grand opening Nov. 15, 1963, Fleischmann Planetarium at the University of Nevada, Reno has served more than half a million northern Nevada students, K-12, through field trip programs in collaboration with Nevada’s school system.
• For 50 years as the “Space Place,” we’ve introduced more than a million community members and more than a million Reno visitors to space science and the wonders of the universe through educational star shows, telescope viewings and science exhibits.
• Our 50-year-old mid-century modern (some would say space-age!) building, designed by Reno architect Raymond Hellmann and built to research and educate the public about atmospheric science, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
• Looking forward to the NEXT 50 years, we’ll continue our mission of engaging students, community members and Reno visitors in science, technology, engineering and math.
